Up The Ladder and Over The Top [Paperback] Review

This is one of the most interesting, and most intriguing autobiographies I have ever read. I have marveled at this musician's talents over the years, starting with his time leading the band on "Name That Tune" through the 20-plus years he spent doing Bob Hope's NBC specials. I own all of his CDs, including two I have purchased from amazon.com.

Reading Bob's rise from his less-than-stellar formative years in Brooklyn to jazz clubs, name bands, his misfortunes with the dating scene, Las Vegas, the Hollywood studio scene, arranging and conducting for a variety of name performers, and finally migrating to his current Hilton Head Island base brought me to tears at times.

His personal distaste for the trendiness of today's youth also struck a high note with me, for I also disapprove of almost everything they do.

For musicians and non-musicians alike, this is a life well-lived, and a book worth your time to seek out and read.
