The arrangements cover many styles from stride to modern jazz to classically tinged "society".If you like to study styles to use for your weekly gig at the restaurant or just enjoy the challenge at home, then between all the arrangements here you can find answers to many of the problems of playing standards from sheet music.These include finding the right harmonies and voicings, accompanying using various left hand styles to filling the rests with something that provides momentum but allows a breath for the melody.There are all kinds of elegant harmonic surprises, counterpoint, clever fills and modulations that liven up these otherwise crusty standards.I thought I knew just about all the modern jazz chords from studying these arrangers in previous volumes and Piano Today but there are some here I bet you can't find anywhere else.
The music is printed on easy to read staff with clear note fonts.The suggested fingerings are helpful and save time getting up to speed with the tricky sections.I really appreciate the trouble that the publisher and printer went to in order to create a clever lay flat "perfect binding" (printer's lingo) that makes it easier to keep the music on the stand.There were a couple of very small typos (missed accidental and wrong chord name) but it did not detract from the very pleasant experience of playing through these (or struggling through the tricky bits). Incredible value for money thanks to the arrangers.
